Weekend Portfolio: Jean-Marc Caimi & Valentina Piccinni

Bitter Summer is the latest photographic work by Jean-Marc and Valentina conducted in Bari in the South of Italy. It focuses on a peculiar seaside spot mainly crowded by the marginalized and needy social class, affected by the economic crisis, in search of a cheap way to spend the holidays. This free beach strip is located right in the city centre is a huge drainage canal surrounded by buildings where thousands of people spend several days and nights during the hot season. The work was entirely shot on film with unobtrusive point and shoot cameras, during our stay in the canal with some of the families we met there.
