On Friday, June 3, 2016, Peter Freeman Inc. gallery hosted the opening of its current exhibition “Anna and Bernhard Blume: Scenes from a Photo-Novel” with a two-hour reception. The gallery is proud to present to its visitors the first exhibition of the German couple’s works since 1989 at the Museum of Modern Art.

The Blumes have been staging themselves in domestic yet chaotic situations to critique the bourgeois life of the German middle-class with irony and dark humor. Despite having started their careers as painters, Anna and Bernhard Blume chose the camera as a medium to present reality in its utmost purity. Today, Anna Blume lives and works in Cologne no longer accompanied by her late husband, Benhard, who died in 2011.

“Anna and Bernhard Blume: Scenes from a Photo-Novel” will be on view until July 22, 2016.
