Flash Fiction: Caroline Tompkins
Down In Flames
You wouldn’t believe the cost of an RV these days. Buying an RV used to be an economic solution for those wayward souls struck by poverty. Now, nomads are trendy.
I put a fair percentage of my savings into a completely overpriced “fixer-upper,” otherwise known as a hunk of junk. I planned to fix her up with some scrap metal, and assistance from the mechanic I have a crush on—killing two birds with one stone.
And then, the unimaginable. A fire swallowed her whole. A cigarette butt turned into a blaze and then a near conflagration. And all I did was cry.
