MUSÉE 10: SET 2
Band: Andy Stott Song: Luxury Problems
Every season there is one song that surfaces in multiple shows. Surprisingly for this past one, it was the obscure Luxury Problems that received the most plays at Lacoste, Prabal Gurung, Cavalli, Mary Katrantzou…the list goes on.
Band: The Joy Formidable Song: This Ladder Is Ours
Out of The Joy Formidable new album Wolf’s Law, Jason Wu chose the uplifting This Ladder Is Ours to open his fall show staged at The Third Church of Christ Scientist in Park Avenue.
Band: Gazelle Twin Song: I Turn My Arm (Alixander III Remix)
Gazelle Twin is the solo project of Brighton, England resident Elizabeth Wallen. I Turn My Arm was mixed with Survivor’s Eye of The Tiger for Alexander Wang’s show, a wink to the first Rocky movie soundtrack, he said.
Band: M.I.A. Song: Matangi Mix for Kenzo
Mostly instrumental, banging drums, Indian lyrics and perhaps? some new material, M.I.A. created a mix for one of the most anticipated shows of Paris fashion week, Kenzo, staged at the now empty La Samaritane.
Band: Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Song: Sacrilege
An interesting music choice for Valentino’s fall show, inspired by Vermeer's Girl With a Pearl Earring. Full of white collared dresses, Sacrilege balanced the sweetness of the clothes.
Band: Philip Glass & Beck Song: NYC: 73-78
The first two minutes of Beck’s epic rework of more than 20 pieces from Philip Glass’ archives opened Bibhu Mohapatra’s Fall 13 show, who was inspired by the work of Man Ray.
Band: TNGHT Song: Higher Ground
During London’s week of shows, Peter Pilotto used two tracks from Hudson Mohawke and Lucine’s TNGHT second EP: Buggn’ and Higher Ground, for a stomping soundtrack.
Band: Disclosure Song: White Noise ft. Aluna George
Stella McCartney’s soundtracks are always unmistakably fresh off the UK underground charts. It is not surprising she used Disclosure’s White Noise, one of the top new UK dance acts.
Band: Au Palais Song: Tender Mercy
The sweet and melancholic yet energetic sounds of the Toronto duo Au Palais’ Tender Mercy set the proper mood at The Celeste Bartok ballroom for Marchesa’s collection, inspired on Francisco de Goya equestrian portrait of Maria Teresa de Vallabriga.
Band: Tom Hodge & Javier Peral Song: Capriccio for Carolina (After Beethoven)
Carolina Herrera commissioned London-based composer Tom Hodge and I to create a musical score inspired by Beethoven’s Kreutzer Violin Sonata. Here is the entire show.
