Martyn Thompson Studio is a New York based multidisciplinary outfit that has roots in Thompson's photography practice.
An artisinal aesthetic borne out of Thompson's love of craft runs through the studios' work, expressed with a tactile and painterly language that is a visual push me, pull me between now and nostalgia. With a lengthy history in commercial and editorial photography, the studio has now evolved to include publishing, editioned art, textile and wallpaper design.
A sense of environment is key to a Martyn Thompson photo. He has created images for leading brands including Hermes, Tiffany & Co. and Ralph Lauren, as well as editorial for global publications including Vogue, Architectural Digest and W Magazine. In addition to two books with regular collaborator Ilse Crawford, Martyn has two published monographs: Interiors and Working Space: An Insight into the Creative Heart.
The latest venture, ”Cezanne’s shadow”, a collection of soft furnishings produced in New York, marries the hand-made with technology. Thompson's photographic artworks are reproduced using digital print, silk screen and Jacquard loom weaving to create wallpapers, tapestries and unique pieces of upholstered furniture and fashion that are instilled with both utility and romance.
