About the Project: I Drove up a Mountain

In the work “I Drove up a Mountain (2012)”, I presented six hand-published books, which contained the story of my younger brother, Daniel, a low-functioning Autist, a visual diary. For me, the book is an intimate format that brings the viewer closer to touch and control the depth of his experience, in an alienated world. In my artistic research, I want to ask how it is possible to bring the scrolling format to the gallery walls.

As someone who has experienced continuous alienation, it is important for me to create closeness with the viewer both in content and in form. My texts will want to open up taboo subjects, ventilate the darkness and bring in the viewer as a member of the household, as a close friend. I want the viewer to get close and touch, control the experience in a world full of content, and meet with questions of identity, from a strengthening and honest place. These days I am working on a documentary film about my mother and the artistic community she operates within, I am focusing on the tension between caring for my autistic brother and the desire to act and break through.
