Rivalry Project | David HIlliard: He Looked at Me Like That, June 23-August 18, 2023

Photographs in this exhibition manipulate physical space to signify emotional distance, while the focal point within each frame of the multi-panel works shift, propelling the viewer’s eye across the composition. The audience tunes into a scene in flux within this artwork, each built upon the juxtaposition of a number of single frames and the mise en scène of his characters, props, and landscape. This pictorial unevenness is heightened by the artist himself occupying charged and ambiguous situations to create a picture, using his camera as a means by which he prolongs contact with strangers, creating pockets of artificial intimacy, and extending them into perpetuity.

The Image centre | Katrin Faridani-Interconnected: From the Tap to the Lake and Back, June 21-August 5, 2023

Interconnected is a visual exploration of the Toronto wastewater system, its connection to our drinking water and to Lake Ontario. It examines the consequences of urbanization and solutions for mitigating its negative effects for better water management in the Greater Toronto Area. Through a representational approach, Katrin Faridani focuses on the path of water from her home to Lake Ontario, documenting parts of the Don River watershed, the Ashbridge’s Bay treatment plant and ultimately the Island and R. C. Harris water treatment plants, which process our drinking water from Lake Ontario and send it to our taps, thus illustrating the full cycle of water to and from the artist's home.
