About the artist: Salome Jishkariani is a Georgian artist based in Paris, France. She is mostly working in the medium of photography and video. Her main idea of exploration is the notion of visual perception, psychological perception and their intersections. Her work is like an attempt to perceive the functionality of the Psychic Apparatus and explore the cognitive experience of vision as the optical unconscious. The creations are the basis for exploration, the source and result at a time.
About the project: CHRONESTHESIA, 2020
The psychology term “Chronesthesia” is a synonym for mental time travel that enables reconstruction of personal stories from the past and imagining of possible scenarios of the future. Under the quarantine in the spring of 2020, in the midst of unforeseeable present and future circumstances, Chronesthesia becomes a tool allowing the mind to multiply existing subjective realities derived from the past. The project is an attempt at visual expression, dealing with individual perception of perspective of time, orientation in future and extension of existence itself.
*The project was realised in the framework of the residency: Art & Freedom / Civil Rights at the times of Crisis, organised by Friedrich Naumman Foundation in Tbilisi, Georgia.
