The sorrows of young Lisa

I like to do self-portraits if they show my emotional state. “The sorrows of young Lisa” is one of those. I wanted to show that I was overwhelmed by the excess of my emotion.

In the photo, I hold the blue cold sheet, which symbolizes the based set of past beliefs about who I am, in front of my face. I am protecting that identity from exposure to the uncertainty of living fully. Through this plastic sad covering, I see only sorrow around me. I feel the blue sheet becoming a part of me. I feel trapped inside myself.
