Womb by Uni Eugenia So

Uni Eugenia So is an artist based in New York and works to narrate the esteem for motherhood and the genius of the fetus.

Inside the womb, the swimming fetus develops in the process of gestation to bloom into a beautiful human being. The curious fetus continues to swim in the mother’s womb for nine months until the body of water breaks loose, which propels the unborn to detach from the mother to become a newborn. From birth, life begins to unravel the infinite and inevitable thirst for protection as a means of survival. Undoubtedly, the womb is so precious and warm. Nature forbids us to return to this sacred place, but we can certainly recollect our past as a fetus.

Womb“ is a project I began in 2018 to cope with my growing desires in finding the absolute home – my very own inner sanctum brimming with warmth and life. These images are part of a subseries titled „Cells“ where I take pictures of submerged flowers inside a glass goblet. Flowers being tangible organic matters reminds me of the fetus – fragile, precious, something that is born to bloom and die to start all over again. So when I look at my glass goblet with swimming flowers, I am reminded of the mutual past that we all share as humans.

I was once a flower, swimming in her waters.
