The Directors of Marlborough Gallery are pleased to announce the exhibition Waiting For The Light, the first show in New York of the photographic work of two-time Oscar winning film director, Pedro Almodóvar. Waiting For The Light presents the artist’s most recent group of photographic still lifes. As in his films, which are dotted with erudite quotes and historical allusions, his work as a photographer references the realist painters in Madrid, especially Antonio López García and Isabel Quintanilla, and the manner of focusing on the quotidian in a way that makes the objects visually transcendent. The photographs in the exhibition also bear relation to his films, with the Pop touches, sense of domesticity and innovative use of color. All the images have an unmistakable Almodóvarian flavor.
