On Thursday, January 11th, 2018, Jack Shainman Gallery, presented Gordon Parks' I am you | Part 1. Parks, not only a photographer but a film director, writer and composer who is known for the way he portrayed his surroundings during the civil rights era, has been a large influence on the North American culture. Although, I am you | Part 1 focuses on Parks' lesser known work, such as photos of artists in their studios and his aesthetically unique fashion photography. Gordon Parks was born in Kansas in 1912. He was a self taught photographer who eventually went on to work for Life Magazine where he continued to influence the culture and lives of the world.
