Unseen Amsterdam Loses Sponsorship

An art fair in its fledgling years, Unseen Amsterdam has been opening its doors biannually since 2012, has recently declared bankruptcy. As de Volkskrant reported, Unseen Amsterdam has lost its major sponsors. The cutting-edge centennial stood at the forefront of contemporary photography, connecting people all over the world and encouraging international exchange in the world of art.

This message is an unexpected announcement because the director of the fair, Maurina Paulenka, said that last year was a success. For now, the event is still scheduled to take place in 2020 from September 10 to September 20, and some talks of negotiating a new sponsorship have also surfaced on the web.

While still running, Unseen Amsterdam drew around 25,000 people each year, and showcased at least 50 galleries in 2019.

Oscars: 2020

Another Oscars ceremony became a source of pride and disappointment for its viewers and to Hollywood alike. Parasite and its director, Bong Joon Ho, won the people's hearts and several awards as the first International Feature Film Nominee from South Korea. Joaquin Phoenix received the expected Leading Role Award for his performance in Joker

While Parasite can be viewed as a step forward toward celebrating diversity in the Hollywood film industry, the rest of the ceremony lags behind. Female filmmakers and people of color were largely missing from the top categories, yet they secured the less "popular" ones. Julia Reichert co-directed Learning to Skateboard in a War Zone (If You're a Girl) with Steven Bognar, which received the Short Subject Award, and the best animated short, Hair Love, made by three African-American filmmakers: Matthew A. Cherry, Bruce W. Smith and Everett Downing Jr.

NYFW: Blue Jacket Fashion Show

Last Wednesday, the Blue Jacket fashion show presented exclusive pieces that reinvented the traditional Blue Jacket, featuring prominent athletes, actors and other celebrities. Bill Nye, an acclaimed TV-science icon to most millennials, graced the show's runway and he walked to Lizzo’s chart-smashing hit, Juice. Surprising the crowd with his dance moves, clips of Nye’s performance have swept social media.

The goal of the Blue Jacket show is to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research. The show also featured other celebrities like Victor Cruz from the New York Giants,  fashion designer Simon Doonan, and a fashion model and a singer, Ian Mellencamp.

Fujifilm Ambassador Sparking Outrage by his Street Shooting Style

Tatsuo Suzuki, an ambassador from Fujifilm’s X Photographer project, triggered a wave of anger after a video of him invasively shooting on the street recieved major views on the web. As of today, the video has been taken down, and Suzuki's page deleted off Fujifilm's website.

The photographer's "in your face" shooting style has been compared to that of Bruce Gilden's, which was often described as "annoying" and "obnoxious.” While Gilden often worked in New York, Suzuki mostly shot on the streets of Tokyo, where such practices might be viewed by the Japanese public as highly disturbing to their privacy and etiquette values.
