The “alternative” genre transcends the underground rock of the 1980s, while maintaining a generally nonchalant attitude. Contrary to popular belief, it is not actually rock music that lumps together every song derived from a genre you’re not sure how to categorize. It is not classic, electro, or hard rock, so it must be alternative, right? Disclaimer: the premise of this playlist is 80s/90s rock that has surfaced to become “mainstream”, so it will most likely get you negative attention in a Williamsburg coffee shop. Headphones recommended in hipster areas. Nonetheless, these artists rose to popularity to prove that grunge and dream rock was accessible in an awesome way.
