The Beginning

To them, it felt like an ordinary day. Nothing spectacular happened so far and so they climbed out their apartment window onto the fire escape to smoke: a regular happenstance.
It was warm outside—a beautiful Saturday in June. The sun was hot but a breeze came in the shade that made them giggle and shiver. And then it started, the two of them unknowing. They shuffled closer and closer together in a dazed, inebriated joy, their leg hairs practically reaching out to one another.
They had thought it was an ordinary day. But this was the day they would first kiss. It was the afternoon that everything changed.
