A Sight for Sore Lips © Drishti Verma

By Drishti Verma

I created this image because I was inspired by the concepts of intimacy, vulnerability, and the blurring of boundaries between self and other.

I chose to use a close-up of my lips to represent a personal aspect of my identity, while the inclusion of the eyeball inside my mouth represented the gaze or perspective of another person. As I worked on the image, I felt a mix of emotions, ranging from curiosity and excitement to vulnerability and discomfort.

For me, this image is a commentary on the ways in which we consume and are consumed by the images around us, as well as the power dynamics inherent in the act. By placing the viewer in the position of the one being observed, I hope to provoke thought and discussion about the ways in which we see and are seen in the world.
