Moment: Verena Haitzinger
By Verena Haitzinger
This photo was taken on a trip to Italy with my best friend and her family in July of 2021. We were spending some time at the hotel pool, right before supper. My best friends’ parents had this underwater camera that I could borrow and so I set out to take some pictures, because I always wanted to shoot in and under water. I told my best friend to just dive into the water and then, while trying really hard to keep my eyes open underwater, I shot this picture. I was actually quite lucky, to catch this exact moment, the way that I did. I think moments like these are really interesting, because it can be so fun to just take pictures, but afterwards, you often discover a photo that can mean so much more than it did at that moment. Looking back, this photo was taken at a time where I felt incredibly lost, which is something that you can see reflected in the photo, even if it wasn’t intentional at the moment of shooting.
