Prepare yourself for cuteness overload, as March 23 is National Puppy Day! National Puppy Day is an awesome (paw-some, if you will) day for dog lovers worldwide to celebrate your and other dogs’ adorableness. National Puppy Day isn’t only to show off all our dogs' fluffy, loveable faces. Still, it is also designed to raise awareness of puppy mills and help potential pet owners consider adoption and rescue. Their cuddles and unconditional love make us smile and laugh year-round, so let’s take this day to show them how much we genuinely love them.

Although there are no specific traditions for National Puppy Day, there are many ways to celebrate your four-legged best friend, so let’s talk about them! If you want to show the world your dog’s sweet face, then make sure to use the hashtag #NationalPuppyDay on social media and add to the charming collection of puppy pictures. Another great way to show your puppy, extra love today is to give them a special treat. Whether that is their favorite treat, a pup cup from Starbucks, or even cooking something that they love because, as all dog owners know, dogs love food, if your dog loves to get active, consider taking them on a long walk, a hike, a dog park, or the beach, wherever their favorite place may be. This suggestion is meant for people who have friends with their dogs: throw a puppy party! Gather all your friends and family and have them bring their dogs and shower them with extra treats and belly scratches. If you decide to throw a puppy party, do everyone a favor and take lots of pictures because who doesn’t love a puppy party?

Here are some fun facts about puppies you might not have known: Viewing pictures of puppies made people better at their jobs, according to a Japanese study. Seeing pictures of puppies made workers more relaxed and focused when they started their day with a puppy break. Suppose you are ever bored or unmotivated while at work; take a few-minute break and look at pictures of puppies! Another fun fact about puppies is that they are born blind, deaf, and toothless. They don’t open their eyes until they are about 9-12 days old, their hearing comes at three weeks of age, and it isn’t until six weeks of age that they develop a full vision.

Why do we love puppies so much, and why is the dog's nickname “a man’s best friend?” There is no correct answer to this as it is all personal preference, so here are some reasons why I and many others love dogs. They are adorable with their beautiful fur, joyous smile, and endearing eyes. Secondly, they are incredibly loyal. Your dog may go up to strangers or friends and show them love and excitement, but nothing can break that owner-dog bond.

All dogs have unique personalities and do things that will have people gasping for air because of the intense laughter that our dogs provide us. Being around a dog and not feeling a sense of happiness or warmth is impossible. Dogs will always willingly be by our side. A dog’s love should be cherished and celebrated daily, but today gives us an excuse to do so. A dog only lives for a part of our life, but we are our entire life, so make sure to give them the best possible life and love them.
