Moment: Heather Evans Smith
By Heather Evans Smith
I have always been drawn to using flowers and floral prints in my work. There is something intriguing about their fleeting cycle; life, beauty, and death all in one.
The process behind the image, Cut, is an unusual one for me. My work is typically planned well in advance before I take out my camera. In the spring of 2014, I was walking in my backyard and saw this beautiful display of camellias that had fallen on the ground. My daughter had recently cut her finger and was wearing a band-aid. I shot the image within the next 30 minutes. It was the perfect combination of vulnerability, healing and the cycles of life.
