It had been this way since after college–since everything started to change.
In college, they didn’t have to make the effort to spend time together, because they were always together, in the next room, or bumping into each other in the kitchen. But then, real life happened: promotions, spouses, divorces, babies, and all the time just working for the next paycheck.
And so, every week, once a week, the girls would gather. They’d get food, of course, but mostly, they’d talk. They would cry and laugh, and re-center themselves. These dinners were the foundation of their sanity, tethering each of them to solid ground.
