It was a day trip. As two overworked chefs, we didn’t have time for a vacation. So, we decided on Awaji-shima–I’d never been.
The drive was long, but not unbearable. We traded shifts and radio responsibilities. Most of the trip there was spent in silence, apart from the music. We were exhausted from the week behind us, and relished in the calm.
When we arrived, the mood shifted instantly. We spent the day laughing, exploring and eating. It was so wonderful to eat food that we hadn’t made ourselves. In honor, we climbed up to the great onion, donned the free onion wigs, and bowed. We laughed the whole way home.
