Creatives included in Sony’s $100 Million Covid Relief Fund
If you are a creator and out of a job, Sony might be able to help you. Sony announced that they would set aside $100 million for health care workers, educators, and even creatives.
Creativity is collaborative by nature, and thus was one of the first fields affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Though many are attempting to work remotely and embrace the online platform, many are out of work completely. Netflix, video games, and music, are all the fruit of the creative industry’s labor. The entertainment industry is keeping many occupied and is grateful to be included in the fund.
Thankfully, Sony is helping organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and UNICEF, in addition to health care workers and educators. This will hopefully encourage other corporations to donate as well. Details have not been released on how exactly these funds will be divided.
Virtual Gallery: Arising from the Ground
The internet and social media has become a platform for all types of artists, so the jump to virtual exhibitions in these quarantine times seems to be a natural progression. Mariken Wessels’ collection, NUDE: Arising from the Ground, is in The Ravestijn Gallery’s virtual exhibition where you can visit in the safety of your home. Wessels’ collection focuses on the beauty of the female body, that was inspired by Eadweard Muybrirdges 1887 series, Nude woman rising from the ground. Wessels has on display four beautiful ceramic pieces and plenty of photographs, capturing the weightless bodies in water. Arising from the Ground is available to view online, among with dozens other exhibitions.
A Doctor Holds A Camera
New York’s death toll is at 5,200. Health care workers are risking their own lives to save others. Hospitals are the front line in this historical battle against Corona, the pandemic that has cost 68,976 lives around the world. To non-medical workers, the sights inside hospitals are startling. Patrick Schnell, pediatrician and photographer, documents the effect of COVID-19 in Mount Sinai Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Workers are taking extreme precautions of wearing protective gear, struggling to keep themselves safe and to treat every patient that comes in. Schnell takes heart-wrenching pictures of medical workers attending to a man undergoing cardiac arrest. The courage of front line workers reminds us all to stay home and continue following the guidelines of the CDC.
