Weekend Portfolio: Zac Henderson
Images and Text by Zac Henderson
Approximately 27% of the universe is filled with dark matter, a form of matter that does not interact with the electromagnetic spectrum, and so is invisible to us, yet demonstrates its existence across the universe by effecting gravity at the galactic scale. Another 68% of the universe is filled with a force that affects the expansion of the universe called dark energy, yet we know little else about it.
Inspired and fascinated by these two concepts and the inability to observe such fundamental parts of our existence, this series seeks to embody particle physics, not in a literal representation, but as works inspired by the field's strangeness and outlandish qualities.
Created using ceramic magnets and iron filings, magnetic fields act as a stand in for the unseen interaction between dark matter and normal matter as seen from a larger bulk, in which both forms of matter, and their interactions, are visible.
