“Animals present a challenge to humans. They offer questions about humanity and morality. The ideas and representation of animals in Western culture are varied and often contradictory; from anthropomorphic animals in films to the conviction of the absolute difference of the moral position of humans and animals. We apparently think our gestures towards other species are friendly-yet those gestures are grounded in a firm belief in human superiority.

With the series - MORE THAN LIFE - I’m rethinking our relationship with animals by presenting them in their natural habitat according to men, yet always with a fakeness. They are more than life - sometimes alive, sometimes dead - and always as beautiful as humans.”

Marieta Landkroon is a photographer and filmmaker based in the Netherlands. Her personal work is often inspired by philosophy and is characterized by a mystical, dark edge. Based on her personal stories, she captures the search for meaning and identity mostly through images of women. This interaction results in artistic and distinctive images.

At the age of eighteen, Marieta moved to Amsterdam. Here she studied photography and film at the University of Amsterdam. In 2018 she lived and worked in Montreal, Canada, making images in collaboration with reputable models, costume designers and make-up artists.
