Laws of the Haystack
Imagining alternative, parallel worlds. Worlds that might be but that we do not see. These were my thoughts when a photo of an ordinary haystack triggered images in my head. Vague references of alternative shapes and meanings. Images I recognized, but could not remember having seen before.
At the end of the 19th century the young physicist Ludwig Boltzmann claims that all possible micro-configurations of the atoms of our world have an equal probability of occurring. Inspired by this I cut up and reassemble the original haystack photo by hand. Trying to discover what my imagination whispered in my brain. Investigating alternative configurations hiding in 1 photo.
I am surprised by the multitude of possibilities, by the different types that emerge, by the sense of discovery and my own obsession with the process. The working process that is governed by my explicit, pseudo-scientific rules: the Laws of the Haystack.
