It was during my street photography walk in Malaga, Spain, on a Saturday afternoon, when I came across a local event called "Strong and Beautiful“. A team of hairdressers and make-up artists offered their services to raise funds to combat gender-based violence and violence against women, especially young girls.

I immediately sensed a positive mood and started taking pictures. The square was full of people and filled with bustle, women and girls eager to see themselves completely transformed in the mirrors. I was fascinated by the scene of a daughter and mother absorbed in reinventing their looks, allowing me to get closer without disturbing them. The mirror gave me the opportunity to be close, yet stay remote at the same time.

I waited for the moment when the mirror perfectly framed the mother's face with her strong emotion that was balanced by her daughter's smile. The hairdresser's hands illustrate the situation in the frame of the mirror, while the reality outside the mirror indicates the temporary character of the whole event. Decorations, artificial flowers, a woman wearing a scarf sitting opposite, the detail of her bracelet, even the randomly repeating colors are visual clues that happily correspond with each other.
