Musée Magazine Issue No. 25 - Curation
IN THIS ISSUE
For a word used when referring to organizing a sock drawer, ‘curate,’ whose root word, curare meaning, “to care for,” implies a parenthood of sorts between the curator and the curated. Issue No. 25 of Musée Magazine explores different approaches to art curation. Sarah Meister, former curator for the Robert B. Menschel Department of Photography at MoMA, uses it to garner a sense of respect and wonder for art, while Martin Barnes, Senior Curator of Photographs at the V&A, sees himself as a “cultural producer,” and Antwaun Sargent, director and curator at Gagosian, focuses on black bodies, pushing back against institutional elitism in photography.
Featuring interviews with sixteen curators, including Isolde Brielmaier (Curator-at-Large at ICP), Corey Keller (curator of photography at SF MoMA), Grace Noh (Exhibitions Manager at Fotografiska), Shawn Waldron (curator at Getty Images), and David Campany (Managing Director of Programs at ICP), and work from Poulomi Basu (artist), Mona Kuhn (artist), and Stan Douglas (artist), CURATION explores what it means to be a curator in the art world — and how it is far more than taste-making.

MUSÉE MAGAZINE EMERGING ARTISTS IS SPONSORED BY UNTITLED SPACE
In every issue, Musée Magazine takes great pride in accepting submissions from an array of up-and-coming photographers, who by and large are not represented by either agents, or galleries. We feel very strongly that a genre of art is only as strong as those that are yet to come. And like every art form, photography is defined as much by its future as it is by its present, or past.
