I wanted to run away. Damn it all and disappear. I needed a space.

I settled on this spot for its white-blanket walls and the three-pane window. The elements were in concert; the wind chimed and the rain pattered. I sat there like a blasted tree, breathing in the dry air, grieving for the loss of my lush greens. When suddenly, I heard the sound of boots at the door.

Creak. The figure at the threshold was silhouetted against the night. I espied the weathered face before me. The frown lines. The laugh lines. The sagging jowls. It leaned in. Whispered to me in all gentleness. How can I describe my utter disbelief. It was me with a message from the future?

For the next few hours, we jested about the future, about what we’d grow up to be. The morning brought clear skies and sun rays that beamed through the window. Before leaving, It tucked me in, planted like a tree stump, I was ready to grow.
