America, as a place and an idea, has occupied Mitch Epstein’s art for the past five decades. More than a single era or issue, it is the living organism of American culture that he examines in his new book, Sunshine Hotel. In conversation with The New Yorker art editor Andrea K. Scott, he’ll expose behind-the-scenes stories from his experiences photographing America’s changing landscape and zeitgeist.
A pioneer of color art photography, Epstein will show images from Sunshine Hotel--which span the last 50 years of life in the USA—offering sorely needed insight into the complexities of America’s past and present.
