An observer of the photographs

Travis Evans and the artist's granddaughter, Lucia Stoller

The latest exhibition of famed modern architecture photographer Ezra Stoller takes place at Yossi Milo Gallery in Chelsea. The exhibition, titled Beyond Architecture takes a look at Stoller's rarely seen images of various subjects including transportation, industry, factory settings, and working-class Americans. Most of the images are in gorgeous black and white but a few are also in vibrant color.

The images were selected from the entire Stoller archive with has over 50,000 images. With these photographs we get a view into an America that hardly exists anymore - like of American workers making various products including cigarettes, televisions, and calculators. Stoller's ability to capture 3-dimensional buildings in 2-dimensional photographs is incredible, and due to his strong sense of vantage point, line, and lighting.

At the opening I had the honor of meeting his granddaughter, Lucia Stoller, who was very excited to see so many of her grandfather's images in one place. The collection is extensive and on display through March 2, 2013.
