David Zwirner and Fraenkel Gallery present Cataclysm: The 1972 Diane Arbus Retrospective Revisited at David Zwirner Los Angeles from April 24—June 21, 2025.

The exhibition recreates Arbus’s groundbreaking 1972 posthumous retrospective at MoMA, featuring all 113 photographs from the original show. First opened in New York in 2022 to mark the retrospective’s 50th anniversary, Cataclysm highlights the lasting impact and controversy surrounding Arbus’s work. The original exhibition was a turning point for photography as fine art, drawing both critical acclaim and sharp criticism. This marks the first major Arbus show in Los Angeles in over 20 years.
