The Africa Center

Between Nostalgia and Dreams, photographs by Ethiopian- American artist Yusuf Ahmed, is on view at the Africa Center until April 27th, 2025. The exhibition features fifteen photographs by the artist, all surrounding the question: “What is the object you’ve held onto the longest? Through this Ahmed reveals the deep sentimentality of heritage and memory. The photographs burn with a golden nightly hue, evoking the lonely qualm of remembering, and the sanctifying aura of being connected to a larger history that one may not be fully aware of. Ahmed’s subjects span Africa, Asia and the Middle East, offering the collective yearning that exists within immigrant identities.
