© Michael Ackerman, “End Time City”, Benares, India, 1994

Michael Ackerman's work, “End Time City”, delves into Benares, India - a place that has captivated him visually and emotionally, drawing him back every year. Published in 1999, the work won the Nadar Prize, solidifying Ackerman as a distinct and radical voice in contemporary photography. his hallucinatory vision of the holy city transcended exoticism and superficial description. Ackerman's imagination remained free, continually challenging the limits of possibility while seamlessly integrating various formats. He skillfully embraced the darkness in his work without succumbing to despair.

© Martin Bogren, “Tractor boys”, 2010-2012

Martin Bogren's series “Tractor Boys”, filmed between 2010 and 2012 in Skåne, Sweden, offers an intimate look at the night-time activities of teenagers in their rural town. Driving modified EPA tractors, these teenagers race across deserted fields at night. In grainy black and white images, Bogren captures their world: laughing, talking, flirting and resting in a space seemingly isolated from the adult world. His respectful, non-judgmental approach evokes timeless nostalgia and the bittersweet transition from youth to adulthood.

Lorenzo Castore's 'Paradiso' immerses viewers in the vibrant life of Cuba, pushing the boundaries of personal and honest photographic expression. Using color as a fundamental element, Castore captures moments that transcend stereotypes. His book “Paradiso” won the Leica European Publishers Award in 2005 and has been published in six countries.

© Richard Pak, “Pursuit”, Heartbreak Ride, 2005

The French artist, Richard Pak's 'Pursuit,' created during his travels around the USA from 2003 to 2009, is inspired by the Declaration of Independence's promise of 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Pak captures intimate moments and close relationships, drawing on a narrative deeply rooted in real-life experiences. Influenced by American literature and New Hollywood cinema, Pak's work contrasts two very different American realities, Pak's photographs explore themes such as couples, separation, and addiction. Pak's photographs mix universally recognizable images of America with his personal experiences.

©Anders Peterson, “Cafe Lehmitz”, Hamburg, 1970

Finally, Petersen's “Cafè Lehmitz” transports viewers to the authentic and unvarnished world of a Hamburg bar. From 1967 to 1970, Petersen immersed himself in the daily lives of prostitutes, sailors, transvestites, dropouts, and petty criminals. These individuals formed a united community of non-conformists, and Petersen's candid photography highlights moments of drinking, dancing, loving, crying, fighting, and singing, portraying its eclectic clientele with deep empathy.
