Waiting for the Call
Written by Emma Mathes
She’d woken up at 5:00am to stretch and wash her face before putting on the usual dress and running out the door. Now, sitting in the waiting room she saw faces she’d seen before.
She’d practiced her words on the subway and went over the steps in her head. She felt as prepared as she thought she could be, but something was uneasy about her. She recognized a few women who had booked before when she hadn’t.
Wishing she was back home in her bed, she took a moment to breathe, pulling out a pocket mirror to check her makeup when—
“Next.”
“Coming.”
