Turning away from the common documentation of ruin and abandonment that characterize the infamous Catskill Resort region, “A Piece of Sky” is a series of photographs that builds an atmosphere of life through carefully lit, long exposure photographs. A reimagination of a bygone era, these images will eventually be included in a photo book that examines over 60 locations. The project is a journey through time–a layered reflection into a colorful world of carefree leisure, exciting social experiences, and vibrant indoor and outdoor atmospheres--an examination of a poignant cultural renaissance in the 20th century. Merging the stagnant realities of these spaces with my desire to experience their former grand existences, the atmospheres presented are reminiscent of a triumphant past whilst indicative of a hopeful future.
