Images and text by Sharon Castellanos

“Duro de Morir” or “Hard to Die” comes from the sign on the back of a transport van in one of the images. This serie of photographs address what I was feeling in a specific time, after working +four years as a press photographer for a daily newspaper, I realized that I was knowing just one percentage of the region or with a straight filter of covering crime news mostly in the last period, so I decided to quit that job and take time to explore diverse communities in the highlands on my own way. Instead taking pictures with the premise of the evidence, I was driven by the instinct, the stories of the people that I met and the unconscious search for the uncertain atmosphere as a photographic reaction after facing tragedy and hard situations, at the same time, the images show some traces of the rurality and the local culture as the link with the appearance of the context.
