Is there a specific aesthetic or focus that tethers all of your images composition wise?

The work bath in brilliant green was created almost entirely at night, which is why the imagery is rather dark and eerie. My aesthetic is composed of working with the analogue medium format and a direct flash.

How do you incorporate performance and theater into your photography?

Since I work with a Hasselblad, the square format works like a kind of stage for me. My staged portraits often consist of actions performed for the camera. Staging is an important part of my work because it allows me to show a different form of the present.

What about the passage of time through familial generations interests you as a subject matter?

Actually, I hate any form of change. But time is the measure of all things when it comes to change. I am interested in my family for the reason of being able to better understand how ways of thinking and acting can develop.

Describe your creative process in one word.
Letting go

If you could teach a one-hour class on anything, what would it be?

Since I am a professor of photography, this question is quite exciting for me because I am constantly thinking about what I want to teach my students. I am currently teaching my favourite subject: failure.

What was the last book you read or film you saw that inspired you?

A photobook: JINDŘICH ŠTREIT – VILLAGE PEOPLE 1965–1990
