About the Images: If you were to ask me what Seattle Santacon is really about now I still don’t have an answer for you. Much of my personal photography is through the lens of feeling like an interloper - recently having moved to Seattle, a lack of American ancestry, and before these photographs, I didn’t really have much of an understanding of what Santacon was or is. I shot these photographs to learn more about how I viewed something so distant to me and in doing so I think it broadened my understanding of expectations, love, and the pursuit to find personal freedom regardless of repercussions.
In my photography I find myself searching for serendipitous moments that portray life as we experience it. Not everything is perfect. Not everything is binary. Life is a spectrum and I want to see as much of it as I can. So if you are looking for a tidy description of what Santacon in Seattle is really about I can’t give that to you but I hope these photographs show you more than one side of the story.
About Jason: I am a photographer / video director / producer from the San Francisco Bay Area who currently calls Seattle, Washington their home. I’m drawn to a good story and fascinated by the unique, unexpected, and weird. I root for the underdog but also think the villain is equally as interesting.
I grew up skateboarding, touring in bands, and making home movies. In the past, I ran a vinyl-based record label called Loglady Records and was part of an art collective called Drone Dungeon. I’ve worked in-house as a video producer for a number of online publications and from 2020 to early 2022 I was the Director of Photography for the culinary brand Breville USA.
