Could you tell us about your project Rose of the Desert? What are your inspirations?

For 4 days a year, the desert oasis town welcomes visitors to the international festival of Sahara to preserve and illuminate the Berber traditions of North Africa. I focused on the youngest Tunisians living in this rural area of the country brought together for the event to explore the clash between modernity and the history and culture of the Sahara desert.

By going through your projects, I found that you've been making projects in a lot of places, Kyrgyzstan, Spain, Paris, etc. Is there anything interesting about shooting the traditional cultural activities under different cultural contexts?

I have been looking at cultural events and spaces and how they adapt, preserve and transmit between generations as we evolve culturally and technologically; these events open an opportunity to explore a view on these collective experiences. My gaze evolves as I build on my previous work, I am very interested in the complex and absurd social and cultural relations that form our identities. I like to choose events and spaces that unite people to explore these ideas.

What does photojournalism mean to you?

I studied photojournalism and have always been inspired by the work of photojournalists & documentary photographers, which has influenced elements of my practice. However I would not categorize my work as such. It is a powerful storytelling tool, more women & diverse voices must be supported to work in the professional photojournalism industry.

What projects are you currently working on? Can you tell us a bit about your next step?

I am working on self-publishing a book on my project on the World Nomad Games.
