You can be a cop, a criminal, or a lawyer, when you are facing a loaded gun what’s the difference?

The photograph was taken in October 2011 and was the last in You can be a cop, a criminal or a lawyerwhen you are facing a loaded gun what’s the difference?, a series of eight tableaux vivants arising from ideas of storytelling and pause. While working on the series, I oscillated between my immersion in genre movies and location scouting in Cyprus in order to construct these staged photographs with attention to film conventions, intertextuality and landscape. The superlative invasion of the villainous outré reduces the cinematic duration of the sci-fi genre to a moment of crisis, anticipation and suspension. By playing with the tension between the in-the-frame and out-of-frame, I wanted to create a picture that draws attention to what is seen but also opens up to what is not in terms of both its place and time in a story.
