The Wooden House
The Wooden House is an attempt at a father/daughter creative collaboration during quarantine; not only to pass the time of the early days of the pandemic, but to also teach the basic concepts of how light works, how cameras work and how ideas can be formulated and brought to fruition.
Using props found within and around our home (including ourselves), some images are playful and surreal, while others document qualities of anxiety brought upon by the uncertainties of the pandemic.
At a certain point, the fun of the process quickly dwindled for my (then 8 year old) daughter. Her patience was tested and ultimately the process was filled with a level of tension that wasn’t good for our family dynamic.
The original intent of having fun had turned into the opposite. This frustration is apparent in some of the images; either on the look of my daughter’s face or in some of the props that are used (ei: the toppling of blocks or the bitterness of lemons found in our yard).
This project is ongoing. Whether my daughter helps execute the remaining images or not remains to be seen, but the ideas for the remaining images are those we conjured up together.
