Garbatella Images, hosted by 10b Photography, returns for its second chapter this December.
This site-specific work explores themes of the body and how they connect to Garbatella, the urban area at the helm of the Ostiense quarter of Rome. The exhibitions will be displayed at the 10b Photography gallery, and in three historic lots across Garbatella.
Directed by Francesco Zizola and curated by Sara Alberani, this new edition will present the works of four female photographers – namely Olivia Brighi, Chiara Ernandes, Lorena Florio and Priscilla Pallante. All of whom make extensive use of experimentation and new technologies in their skill, employing photography as a means of investigation.
“The new technologies are used to give us new and surprising visions of bodies explored and revisited, with the aim of opening our minds to new interpretative scenarios in which the visual canon is questioned,” Zizola said in a press release. “The images are like relics of the past, and the emotional trace is capable of activating connections with the present through deep roots.”
In collaboration with 10b Photography, Francesco Rombaldi of Yogurt Magazine curated a photobook that features the artists’ works. The publication is accessible to the exhibition’s visitors.
Garbatella Images 2021 is open for viewing from December 10 to 20. Entrance to the gallery is restricted by appointment from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission to the three lots is free to the public.
