I have the habit of walking along a river or a lake because water helps me relax. Last year I moved to Tianjin and found the Hai river, which is a short river through the city. The river seems to have become a perfect part of the city; It flows too slow to tell the direction of the current. Somehow it makes me think it as a ‘domesticated’ river.

Soon I noticed the locals swimming, fishing in some unexpected way which drew me start to collect those moments. A day in the summer, the man took his raft which apparently was an inner tube. He was entering, or say rushing into the water when I saw him. I was using a manual film camera, so it would take some time to focus. At the moment I believe he saw me too. But my action must be regarded as sort of encouraging as he paddled harder in the water. Then I took the photo.

This photograph is part of my recent project, So long, and thanks for all the fish.
