This image is from an ongoing series titled "Black Nuance". It is a collective of Black joy and representation from a charming perspective. In this session, I wanted to capture a moment of black brotherhood and unity. The moment that I caught in this image came naturally. From forming conversations with the gentleman and giving them feelings to convey while shooting definitely supported the feel I envisioned and what made it more organic. There wasn't any staging just music in the background, a flow of conversations and movements. I find so much inspiration in Black advertising from the 70s. Also, photography as a whole from Black creatives from before is a huge reference for me wanting to keep that energy alive today with my own aesthetic. It is important for me to document us, people of color, in the most refined way. Just like the line in the poem that accompanies this series says, "Our brown bodies are the tragedy and the victory of the American dream." I want this series to be a time capsule that is sealed with Black beauty, fashion, love and joy. I look forward to expanding this series with more POC artists, creatives, models and designers.
