This photo was taken as part of an ongoing series Entoptic Phenomena.
The series began accidentally when attempting to perform a silly idea that I had. I wanted to jump in the air and completely cover myself with fabric and "disappear" from the camera's perspective. The first few resulting images were hilarious and blew my mind with respect to visual impact. I went on to shoot hundreds of photos for the series in different settings over the course of the next few years.
As for the photo published here, while out shooting I wanted to see if I could make it look like the floating form was large and ominous over the city of Austin, TX.
I saw this one flash up on the camera display and thought it had a hint of Rene Magritte's painting The Castle of the Pyrenees, 1959.
