Mr. & Mrs. H

Jay and Carly Howlett are parents to three children: Josh, Charlie and Louis. They are also regular competitors in bodybuilding championships. ‘Mr and Mrs H’ follows the couple throughout the final month of their preparations for a national tournament.

Looking beyond the grueling regime of pre-prepped meals, grooming sessions and workouts, Joshua Osborne’s unrestricted access affords us insight into Jay and Carly’s mutual support of each other in their pursuit of success. We are brought into their home where we see how their passion for the sport intersects with family life.

Touching on ideas of discipline, sacrifice and family, ‘Mr & Mrs H’ gives the viewer an intimate look into the harsh world of competitive bodybuilding; as well as to observe moments of familial tenderness and surprising vulnerability. The project calls into question the nature of the image in a world where the idea of perfection is defined and measurable.
