Evolution explores the concepts of progress, transformation, growth, and advancement in an age when images are taking a dramatic shift in the role they play in our lives.

Both Karen Margolis and Mike Jackson had shows open at Foley Galley on the Lower East Side.

The new works in “in the precipice” continue to use Karen Margolis’ flow chart of emotions, but have evolved into more interpretive narratives, relying as much on texture and form as on color to convey meaning, albeit, encoded.  This work was developed more instinctually and extemporaneously, mostly unmediated by cogitation.

The work in Birdsong created ‘live’ rather than from a memory – Mike Jackson places the marks on paper as he listens to the song. the darkroom’s lack of light, much like an isolation tank, allowed Jackson to notice a form of sensory input that he had beforehand taken completely for granted. Each luminogram is a one off unique piece.
