Aneta Grzeszykowska at Lyles & King
Aneta Grzeszykowska is apart of the Raster Gallery, an art space in Warsaw, Poland that is at the forefront of the European contemporary art market. For the first time in five years, she is exhibiting her multi-media pieces in “No/Body”, a two-part exhibit separated into the Lyles & King and 11R galleries.
The first gallery is focused on the “No,” a negation of body, identity, and memory featuring negative images in which she painted her whole body black to appear hyper-bright in the photos. In addition, this section features “Franciszka,” a black leather doll acting as a real-life, 3-D negative. The second section, the “Body,” features photographs of doll parts made out of pig-skin captured in the style of a “selfie.” The resulting images are strikingly human in appearance, calling to question the materiality of the body.
This exhibit is on view through October 16. Opening hours are Wed-Sun: 12pm-6pm. The gallery is located at 106 Forsyth Street, New York, NY, 10002; Tel: 646-484-5478.
