Issue No. 28 – Control

What is the nature of control? The desire for it—and to be free of it—are essential parts of both life and art.

EMERGING ARTIST INTERVIEWS: Kalliope Amorphous

1. Tell us about your image: Kalliope Amorphous: "Faith" is a self-portrait from my Glass Houses series. The series explores the malleability of identity through the use of flexible mirror boards.

2. What type of Energy were you trying to express or capture in this photograph?

K.A: For me, this photograph expresses the energy of blind faith and hypocrisy.

3. Why Photography? What about it inspires and excites you?

K.A.: I am inspired by the unique way that photography captures impermanence and emotion, and I strive to work with still images in the same way that a dancer works with butoh. I'm currently reading Camera Lucida by Roland Barthes and he has written what I have been unable to express in words when asked the question "Why Photography?"

4. Our upcoming issue is centered around the theme of 'Fantasy'. What is your fantasy, right now?

K.A.: Lately, I have been looking at too many photos of infinity pools and fantasizing about vacationing around some of the most beautiful ones!
