January 6 - February 11, 2017
Gideon Mendel, featured in our latest issue, Chaos, has traveled a number of time throughout the last six months to the Jungle refugee camp in Calais, France to teach photography to the residents. Over time spent with the refugees, he turned his camera towards their possessions to show the weight of the situation and living conditions they endure. Mendel’s alternative portraits of the residents are representative of the plight of displaced people across the globe. He has titled the project 'Dzhangal,' a Pashto word meaning ‘This is the forest’, the origin of the contentious term the Jungle.
From January 6 to February 11, Dzhangal will be exhibited at Autograph ABP in Rivington Place, London EC2A 3BA. For more information, visit their site.
In addition, Dzhangal has been made into a book with 40 images, and writings by residents of the Jungle refugee camp. It will be released on January 28. Available for pre-sale here.
